Detailed Itinerary
HOLY MT. KAILASH YATRA via LHASA (21 DAYS)
Day 01 ARRIVE KATHMANDU (1300 mtrs)
Arr: Kathmandu By Air
Welcome/Assistance at the airport/ Drive to hotel/ briefing/ if time
permits our guide will take you to Pashupatinath for Dharsan during
Arati time. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 02 Kathmandu
Morning sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. Visit: Pashupatinath Temple and
Budhaneelkanth Temple. Return to hotel for hot lunch. After lunch final
preparation for Kailash Yatra i.e. checking and demonstration of equipments
which will be used during yatra. It you need to buy/hire few small things,
our executives will assist you. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03 FLY KATHMANDU - LHASA (3650 mtrs) 1 hr. 30
minutes flight
Morning transfer to the airport to connect flight from Kathmandu to
Lhasa on China Southwest Airlines. This one hour trans Himalayan Flight
will give you an opportunity to have an aerial view of the Mt. Everest
and other Himalayan Peaks (subject to clear weather). Arrival at Gonggar
airport around 13.30 hrs. local time. After clearing immigration and
customs it will be a two hour drive to cover the 93 km. to Lhasa which
is situated at an altitude of 3650 meters (13,000ft). First high altitude
experience for most of you. Upon arrival we check-in hotel and free
time for resting which is important to acclimatization with the altitude.

Day 04 LHASA - visit Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery
and Barkhor Street
In the north suburb of Lhasa, Sera is the second biggest Gelupa Monastery,
which is built in 1419 by Tsongapa's disciple Sakya-Yeshi. Jokhang Temple
is one of the oldest temples in Tibet - built in 7th century by the
33rd king Sontsanganbu. Jokhang Temple is situated at the heart of the
oldest section of the Lhasa city. Barkor is the middle pilgrimage circuit
around Jokhang Temple.
Day 05 LHASA - visit Potalal Palace, The Norbulinka and Drepung Monastery
Morning visit Potala Palace - the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. Originally,
Potala Palace was built in the 7th century by the king Sotsen Gampo
and rebuilt to the present size by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century.
The Norbulinka was built in the mid 18th century by 7th Dalai Lama,
the Jewel Park was the Dalai Lama's summer palace, it covers 100 acres
with palaces, pavilions and a zoo.
Drepung monastery, built in 1416 by Tsongapa's disciple Jamyang-Choje.
Drepung Monastery is the biggest Gelupa monastery in the west suburb
of Lhasa.
Day 06 LHASA - GYANTSE (Altitude 3900 m.) (260 kms/
6-7 hrs drive)
Morning
begin your overland adventure with a full day drive to Gyantse - south
west of Lhasa. Along the way you cross the Kamba la (4794m) and the
Karo la pass (5010m), both grant spectacular views. After the Kamba
la you come to Yamdrok tso, also known as the Turquoise lake. You'll
want to have your camera ready. Gyantse has been known as a heroic town
since Tibetans resisted the Young husband's British Expedition to Tibet
in 1904. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 07 GYANTSE - SHIGATSE, (Altitude 3800 m.) (90
kms/ 2-3 hrs. drive)
This will be a busy day. In the morning visit Gyantse stupa and monastery
followed by a two hour drive to Shigatse. Shigatse is the second biggest
city in Tibet, here see the giant Buddha in the famous Tashilumpo monastery.
The seat of the Panchen Lama.
Day 08 SHIGATSE - LHATSE or Tingri, (Altitude 4350
m. / 4000m.*)(308 kms/6-7 hrs drive)
The journey today brings you over two high passes with fine views. For
lunch we stop in the small town of Lhatse. Depending on how much time
we spend during the morning in Shigatse. We will stay overnight in Lhatse
or Tingri. Here you will meet your Nepali staff for your onward journey.
Overnight stay at Guest House.
Day 09 LHATSE - SAGA (4450mtrs) (300 kms/8-9 hrs
drive)
On the first long driving day over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet,
other things like lake, nomads chasing thousands of yaks and sheep keep
you busy. By the late afternoon you will cross Bhramha Purtra River
way to typical Chinese and Tibetan town, Saga for night. Overnight stay
at Guest House.
Day 10 SAGA - PARYANG (4600m) (185 km/ 7-8 hrs drive)
Jeeps and trucks roll on the wide valley following rivers and grazing
land of yaks and sheep. Far south you can see snow covered peaks near
by you, lots of rocky peaks and sand duns give you an ideal world. Depends
on season, nomads and other mobile shopkeepers are attired by beautiful
traditional costume, waiting your arrival with hot tea and other supplies
along with big smile.
Day 11 PARYANG - MANSAROVAR (4558m) (277km/ 8 hours)
The longest driving day starts with full of excitement, crossing Mayum
La pass and arrive Hor Quo. By the late afternoon you can have the first
sight of Holy Kailash Parbat and Manasarovara. Hore, a small village
near by Lake Manasarover, we will spend a night there.
Day 12 HOLY MANSAROVAR parikrama - CHU GUMBA (4558 mtrs)
The highest lake of fresh water with turquoise complexion in the world
is full of fishes and swans. Holy Kailash Parbat, Mt. Gurula-Mandala,
Lake Rashekshi are lying on its surrounding. The region is considered
rich for gold and other mines, hot springs and hundreds of wild living
creatures.
Morning take a Holy dip in Mansarovar and perform puja. Later start
Mansarovar Parikrama by Landcruiser (115 kms/4-5 hrs drive). During
Mansarovar parikrama you may ask your driver to stop for photography
and holy dip again. Continue drive to Chu Gumba and night will be spending
at Guest House in Chu Gumba.
Day 13 CHU GUMBA - TARCHEN (4620 mtrs) (40km)
Manasarovara is the lake of compassion, tranquility and bliss. After
completing the memorable morning Bath and Puja we will be heading towards
Tarchen. Tarchen or Darchen - a small village with couple of guest houses.
It is considered as a base camp for the Holy Kailash Parikrama. Today
you need to prepare for 3 days Kailash Parikrama. Overnight stay in
Guest House.

Day 14 TARCHEN - TARBOCHE (13 kms) - DEHARA PUK (OR
Dirapuk) (5000 mtrs)
Morning drive upto Tarboche - the trek starting point of Kailash Parikrama.
Tarboche - known as the outer "ASTHAPATH". First day of Kailash
Parikrama (kora) is an easy walk along the beautiful rocky cliffs, water
falls with some clouds in the clear blue sky which make a feeling that
great God Shiva is every where with tons of blessing to you. Time to
time the face of Kailash Parbat will be keep on appearing. With few
ups and downs you will be reaching up to the camping sight at Dira Puk
after about 7 hrs walk. Overnight stay in Camp.
Day 15 DIRA PUK - DOLMA LA - ZUTHULPUK (4760 mtrs)
(18 kms/9-10 hrs)
Today is the most holiest and Hardest day of your pilgrimage Yatra with
Dolma-La (pass) of about 5680 mtrs. (18600 ft) between two valleys:
Yama-sthal should be crossed to reach the Shiva-sthal while your steps
go closer to the pass. Once you reach the top, just do the holiest offering
and sit down for meditation to forget yourself. Once your steps go down,
Parvati-stal and Gauri Kunda are on the way. By the late afternoon you
will arrive Zuthal Puk (the cave of Miracles. The great ascetic Milerappa
is supposed to have performed miracles here).
Day 16 ZUTHULPUK - DARCHEN - MANSAROVAR
End of Kailash Parikrama and drive to Manasarovara: After walking for
about 3 hours, all the driving crew will be waiting your arrival. By
the late afternoon you will be at your lodge/camp in Mansarovar Lake.
Day 17 Drive to Paryang (277km) 7-8 hr.
Day 18 Drive Paryang to Saga (185km) 7-8 hrs
Day 19 Drive to Nylam or Zhang Mu: (296km) 6-7
hr.
Day 20 Drive back to Dhulikhel or Kathmandu (163
km) 9-10 hr.
Day 21 Transfer to airport for your onward flight.
